  • Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can anyone come out and shoot at the range?

A: The Gainesville Target Range is a membership only facility. In other words, to come out and shoot you must become a member.

    Q: How do I join?

A: All new members must attend a safety orientation. We hold these once a week at the range. Sundays starting promptly at 5:30 PM. Safety is our FIRST concern. We also ask that you maintain an active membership to the NRA. You may fill out an application at the orientation or you can download one HERE to fill out and bring with you.

Q: OK, so what is all this going to cost me?

A: A regular membership is $200 (this includes FL sales tax) and for new members there is a one time processing fee of $50 for insurance, ID card, etc. So a for a first time member, one year's access to the range will run $250. Spouses can join for just $50(this includes FL sales tax) and are not subject to the additional processing fee. Normally you only pay the $50 processing fee once, when you first join. However, if you let your membeship lapse for more than a month, you must pay the processing fee again on top of the normal annual dues. If you let your membership lapse for over 3 months, you will be subject to the processing fee AND must retake the range safety orientation. A 10% discount is applied if you renew for 2 years at once.

Q: So what do I get for that?

A: Full time access to the safest range in N Central Florida. 7 Days a week, 8AM to Dusk, if you were so inclined.

Q: What kind of facilities does the Gainesville Target Range have to offer?

A: The Gainesville Target Range consists of 3 separate outdoor ranges. We have a 100-yard rifle range and 2 25-yard handgun ranges. There are covered shooting positions at all ranges with room for 15 to 20 shooters at each range. We have a covered pavillion with restrooms and the entire range is handicap accessible. We put on special events throughout the year and offer classes and hold matches.

Q: Do you provide targets to shoot at?

A: You must bring your own paper targets, but we supply the cardboard backers and target support stands to mount your targets onto. Specifics will be covered in the range briefing you attend before becoming a member.

Q: Where is the range located?

A: The range is located in the N part of Gainesville, off of SR 121 just N of HWY 441 (NW 13th St) in an area called the NW Industrial Park. You can view a map of the area HERE

Q: Can I bring out guests?

A: Members who hold an NRA certification for Range Safety Officer (RSO) or Certified Firearms Instructor (CFI) may bring out guests. Guest passes are $10 and can be purchased at the Gainesville Realty & Development, Inc. office at 1410 NW 13 Street Ste 9, Gainesville, FL 32601. We do hold RSO classes taught by our Chief Range Safety Officer periodically throughout the year. Please check out website for updates.

Q: Do you sell guns or ammo?

    A: No.

Q: Do you offer classes in gun safety, handling, etc?

A: We do host a variety of classes and several organizations hold matches at the range as well. Check out our Upcoming Events page for more info. You may also contact any of our Firearm Instructors directly for information. A list of members who may teach at the range can be found HERE
